Like Minds

Four like-minded individuals birthed an idea, concocted naturally over wholesome food and in wholesome company.

A recipe for genius. An invitation for merging brain waves.

Melissa Morgan, James Rolph, Adam Byrne and Lucy Walker are the Like Minds. They include, respectively, a joyful cook, a coffee guru, and two graphic designers who are united by one common desire: To build and nurture community.

And what they have created epitomises the meaning of community: long benches, fresh food, a vegetable garden, workshops, art, the scent of good coffee, and conversation (tipped with laughter, always).

Nestled in the heart of Avoca Beach on Australia's Central Coast (my beautiful home!), you will find the four Like Minds creating a haven of like-mindedness among locals but also with those abroad.

“We have found tremendous support near and far, including vast followers online, nationally and internationally, as well as locally. Our community is boundary-less!" shared Lucy.

"To us, community means connecting through common values, which does not have to just take place within the physical space of Like Minds. It can transpire in our conversations with the online world. Networking across multiple platforms and building our virtual community has been significant to our success," she added.

While the four friends recognise they are each different and unique in their own way, the shared non-negotiable however, is community.  “We all believe on a very deep level that community enriches and enhances our happiness.”

Humbled yet ecstatic.

  2. Very cool place! Great story. Community is incredibly important. I think it is different nowadays - we don't really talk to our neighbours and I don't know many people like me who are in their 30's that do, so we use other resources like social media to build community around our ideas and common interests and the beauty of this is, it's global and there are no barriers to how we can commune and make friends anywhere.

    1. I think you are completely right Sharyn. Community is essential, but our idea of what community means (and looks like for that matter) has evolved with the times…. and it has had to frankly. That's progress. While our global friends are expanding, it's also nice to come back to the simple, grassroots idea of place, people and common conversation. Glad you enjoyed :)
